Things A Plant Based Diet Can help with!

Discover the incredible health benefits of embracing a plant-based diet. In this exploration, we’ll delve into five key areas where a plant-based eating pattern can make a positive impact on your well-being. From heart health to cancer risk reduction, you’ll uncover the many ways in which plant-based nutrition can contribute to a healthier and more vibrant you.

1. Heart Health

Plant-based diets are typically low in saturated fats and cholesterol, which can reduce the risk of heart disease. They are also rich in fiber, antioxidants, and nutrients that support cardiovascular health.

2. Weight Management

Plant-based diets are often associated with lower calorie intake and healthier weight maintenance. The emphasis on fruits, vegetables, and whole grains can aid in weight loss and overall body composition.

3. Type 2 Diabetes Prevention and Management

Plant-based diets may improve insulin sensitivity and reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. They can also help individuals with diabetes better manage their blood sugar levels.

4. Cancer Risk Reduction

Certain plant foods contain phytochemicals that have been linked to a reduced risk of various types of cancer. A plant-based diet rich in fruits and vegetables can contribute to cancer prevention.

5. Digestive Health

The high fiber content of plant-based foods promotes healthy digestion and can reduce the risk of digestive issues like constipation and diverticular disease. Fiber also supports a diverse and beneficial gut microbiome.

My Offerings

Take a Walk with Me

this is If you’re wanting to explore booking a one-time, one-on-one coaching session with me.

More Details

Let me explain my offer and how it came to be.

Lifestyle First:  I have five children, four of whom are homeschooled, two of whom are competitive swimmers.  I probably don’t need to say more.  But just to clarify, I spend a lot of time helping them with their needs and dreams, which includes a fair amount of driving.  I also frequently travel to visit and help my mom in a different part of the country.  … My goal is to have a business that allows me to help others live their best lives, while at the same time maintaining the quality of life that I need in order to maintain my health while serving my family and clients.

For years, I did very little one-on-one work because it was just too hard to schedule many quiet calls, especially via Zoom.

So here’s my unique offer:  The Walkabout Wellness Sessions.

A few times a month, I’m going to start offering some one-on-one coaching sessions for $75 USD each.  You only need to sign up for one.  There’s no pressure to ever sign up for another.  This isn’t a package deal.  It’s just a simple call between you and me.

What I Can Help You With:  Any area of life where you feel stuck and where your efforts aren’t making the difference that you want.  Any concerns or fears around type 2 diabetes and dementia, as well as stress.  Needing to know ways of eating that can reverse, prevent or manage chronic disease.  Weight loss strategies that actually work.  Changing habits for good.  Gaining clarity on your pain points, so you can decide what path is right for you.  Anyplace where you want to make a difference and can’t see how.

The Catches:

  •  I’ll be walking, cooking, or puttering while we chat. If the weather is fair, I’ll walk where I am, while you walk where you are, and our phones connect us.  The thing is, walking by phone works just as well as in person – sometimes even better, surprisingly!  But if you’re local, getting together in person is an option.
  • To be clear:  I’ll pause and take notes when I need to.  I’ll make a list of things to send to you post-call.  But you’ll likely hear some background sounds.
  • Let’s have reasonable expectations.  I can’t solve all your problems in an hour.  What I can offer is the very real likelihood of modest but meaningful progress or a good start guiding you in the right direction on your path to wellness.  So even though it’s just us chatting for an hour, which isn’t a lot of time, it might just be something deeply worthwhile that positively impacts your life.

Group Coaching

Monthlong online wellness mentoring program. For African American women.

More Details

Wellness information is so crucial now.  So many of us have relatives and friends who used to be thriving, seemed relatively healthy, and should be enjoying their retirement but instead are sick (or dead) due to diabetes, or they aren’t independent due to Alzheimer’s.  Now you’re worried it will be your turn next.

Type 2 diabetes and Alzheimer’s are especially rampant in the African-American community.  In fact, African-Americans are twice as likely as whites to develop Alzheimer’s.  The same is true for type 2 diabetes.  (Some researchers refer to Alzheimer’s as type 3 diabetes.)  The statistics make my stomach turn, and the reality has been devastating to my family, including my own parents. …  But did you know that it doesn’t have to be like this? … The scientific evidence clearly shows that there are lifestyle changes that could alter your genetic destiny and add years, maybe decades,   of vibrant health to your life!  Do not wait for a diagnosis of dementia!!!

My thoughts on why we struggle with health and weight:  We don’t know the truth.  Hyper-capitalist corporations have marketed a lie and intentionally confused us about what healthy eating is.  They also have literally messed with our taste buds, so we over-eat foods that don’t nourish us and leave us hungry. … Furthermore, we have a history of being conditioned to want to eat like the dominant culture and to assume their ways of eating are superior and worth emulating.  We’ve unknowingly been on a path of assimilation without knowing it and without knowing the harm it could cause.  We’ve lost the knowledge of what our ancestors did, in terms of eating, and how their ways could heal us now. … In short, we didn’t know how much agency we could have over our health.

Why join a group?  Because we are better together!  We can share common struggles and wins, as we spur each other on to joyfully live our best lives!

Central to the program will be learning about:

  • food as medicine to prevent chronic disease, especially type 2 diabetes and dementia;
